AFCEA Canaveral Supports your Academic Efforts!
The AFCEA Educational Foundation is an independent non-profit tax exempt public charity dedicated to providing educational incentives, opportunities and assistance for people engaged in information management, communications and intelligence efforts and fostering excellence in education, particularly in the “hard science” disciplines related to C4I. The AFCEA Canaveral Chapter supports these goals through the offer of three $1,000 scholarships. Dates for submitting applications are TBD and will be announced Fall 2011.
Awardees for 2011 Science Teaching Tools and Robotics Competition
The AFCEA Canaveral Chapter is pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of the science programs in the Brevard County school system. The Canaveral Chapter offers both Scholarships and awards to promote science related education. This year we awarded 6 Science Teaching Tools and Robotics Competition Awards.
Please give a warm congratulations to the winners of 2011 AFCEA Canaveral Chapter Scholarships. As a supporter of the Brevard County School System and the work teachers and stud nets do in the classroom, we would like to recognize theses individuals for their efforts to stretch beyond in the classroom to achieve excellence in the sciences. The funds we are providing will be used to buy supplies necessary to make the learning experience more robust and rewarding. Each award is for $1000.00. The winning applications were submitted by:
1. Randy Lyons, AP/Pre Cambridge University; Honors Chemistry & Physics; Heritage High School; proposed acquisition of equipment to provide experience with centripetal force, angular acceleration, angular velocity and orbital mechanics.
2. Joseph Esteves, Chemistry, Physics and Science Research Teacher; Melbourne High School; proposed acquisition of items for experiences in amateur rocketry.
3. Dawn Arnett, AP and Honors Chemistry and Science Research; Astronaut High School; proposed acquisition of items to support introduction of forensics into the current curriculum.
4. Jessica Kelce, Bayside High School - Beta Academy; proposed to introduce into Biology and Chemistry classes project SEALIFE activities.
5. Maria Granatosky, Head of Science & Teresa Huskisson, Science Teacher; Andrew Jackson Middle School; proposed acquisition of items to support immediate student classroom feedback of lessons in progress.
6. Dawn Krell, Science Department Chair, Science Teacher, Research Teacher; Kennedy Middle School; proposed acquisition of items to permit participation in the "Reach for The Stars Rocketry Competition

Scholarship Eligibility
To be eligible to compete for the scholarships, the person must be an enlisted airman or junior civilian at Patrick AFB or Cape Canaveral AFS. They must be currently registered with a regionally accredited College or University in the United States. Distance learning and/or on-line programs at these Colleges and Universities qualify.
Candidates must be working toward a degree in the fields of electrical, computer, chemical, systems or aerospace engineering; computer science; physics; mathematics; or management information systems. Majors directly related to the support of U.S. intelligence enterprises or national security with relevance to the mission of AFCEA will also be eligible.
An overall GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or better is required.
Note: High School Students are not eligible to apply unless they are registered to attend a college or university.
Application Process
1. Complete this application and return to fdjmc@aol.com by (dates are TBA) a. Identify military or civilian status. b. Identify College or University c. Identify undergraduate degree program d. Provide current GPA
2. Provide a transcript of the undergraduate courses completed and in progress or your acceptance letter if you are a high school senior.
3. Provide a brief (500 words or less) summary of your goals and accomplishments. You may include community service and involvement for consideration.
4. The selection process will be completed and the results provided to all applicants by (dates are TBA).
5. Funds will be provided by (dates are TBA).
