
AFCEA Canaveral Supports your Academic Efforts!
The AFCEA Educational Foundation is an independent non-profit tax exempt public charity dedicated to providing educational incentives, opportunities and assistance for people engaged in information management, communications and intelligence efforts and fostering excellence in education, particularly in the “hard science” disciplines related to C4I. The AFCEA Canaveral Chapter supports these goals through the offer of three $1,000 scholarships. Dates for submitting applications are TBD and will be announced Fall 2008.
Awardees for 2008-2009 Science
Teaching Tools and Robotics Competition
The AFCEA Canaveral Chapter is pleased to have the opportunity
to contribute to the enhancement of the science
programs in the Brevard County school system. The Canaveral Chapter
offers both Scholarships and awards to promote
science related education. This year we awarded
6 Science Teaching Tools and Robotics Competition
Awards.
The winners of the AFCEA Canaveral Chapter Science
Teaching Tools and Robotics Awards were officially
announced June 19, 2008 at our Chapter. We had
15 excellent applications and expanded the number
of awards from the originally planned 4 to 6 awards.
Each award is for $1000.00. The winning applications
were submitted by:
1. Ms Christina Wilberg, Eau Gallie High School
for their Robotics program.
2. Ms. Barbara Rodriques, Hoover Middle School
for their first Robotics program.
3. Ms. Marian Passmore, Rockledge High School for
their Robotics program.
4. Mr. Peter Remyn, Palm Bay High School for Visual
Labs software for lab work in Biology, Chemistry
and Physics.
5. Mr. Naim Torlak, Bayside High School for supplies
to convert an ordinary automobile to an electric
vehicle.
6. Mr. Ivan Farrell, Melbourne High School for
real world chemistry and a new Forensics Chemistry
lab.
Congratulations to each and every one of you for your accomplishments.
Scholarship Eligibility
To be eligible to compete for the scholarships, the person must be an enlisted airman or junior civilian at Patrick AFB or Cape Canaveral AFS. They must be currently registered with a regionally accredited College or University in the United States. Distance learning and/or on-line programs at these Colleges and Universities qualify.
Candidates must be working toward a degree in the fields of electrical, computer, chemical, systems or aerospace engineering; computer science; physics; mathematics; or management information systems. Majors directly related to the support of U.S. intelligence enterprises or national security with relevance to the mission of AFCEA will also be eligible.
An overall GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or better is required.
Note: High School Students are not eligible to apply unless they are registered to attend a college or university.
Application Process
1. Complete this application and return to fdjmc@aol.com by (dates are TBA)
a. Identify military or civilian status.
b. Identify College or University
c. Identify undergraduate degree program
d. Provide current GPA
2. Provide a transcript of the undergraduate courses completed and in progress or your acceptance letter if you are a high school senior.
3. Provide a brief (500 words or less) summary of your goals and accomplishments. You may include community service and involvement for consideration.
4. The selection process will be completed and the results provided to all applicants by (dates are TBA).
5. Funds will be provided by (dates are TBA).
6. A brief summary of the expenditure of funds will be required by (dates are TBA).
