The Canaveral AFCEA Chapter Annual Officer's Installation Banquet Friday October 10th 2008 was a great success. Thank you to all our sponsors and especially Bob Henry for sharing his insight into the importance of AFCEA, Industry, and community support of education. Also for Harris Corporation Briefing Center, Beth and her staff for doing a superb job with the refreshments and food. Finally for the Swinging Bavarians with their festive music and authentic costumes.

Chapter Awards $6000 for Science Education

 

The Canaveral Chapter offers both Scholarships and awards to promote science related education. This year Don McLamb presented 6 Science Teaching Tools and Robotics Competition Awards at the June 19th Chapter Luncheon to Brevard County Schools. 2008 Golf Tournament

The 18 Apr annual tourney held at the Savannahs Golf Course was a blast and helped earn $2,400 to help fund the AFCEA Canaveral's scholarship efforts. Results and pictures click here.

Annual Comm and Info Awards Luncheon

Awards were presented by Col Bernie Gruber (45th Operations Group Commander) and Col Donna Rogers (Air Force Technical Applications Center Vice Commander). The luncheon broke the previous year's record with 106 attendees to congratulate the hard work and accomplishments of the C&I winners. Linked names have pictures associated with the award recipient.

Mars Attacks! at February Monthly Luncheon

Sheryl Bergstrom, NASA Manager of Jet Propulsion Laboratory Cape Operations, was the distinguished speaker at the February Luncheon. Sheryl worked on the Viking Mission in 1975 and the Mars missions of the 1990s and 2001. She is also an accomplished author, with several papers published (an example on the technical challenges of planetary protection).

Harris Presentation on the New Wireless LAN at PAFB Featured at November Luncheon

LTC (USA, Ret) Jerry Griffith and Don Herndon, from the Harris Corporation spoke on the new Wireless LAN installation at PAFB. PAFB is one of the lead bases for the 2d generation wireless network Combat Information Transport System (CITS) upgrade. LTC Griffith is the Chief Engineer for the Harris Base Infrastructure Group - team lead for the wireless install at PAFB.


2007-2008 Officers Installed at Annual Banquet

At the Annual Installation Banquet on 19 October 2007, the 2007-2008 Officers were sworn in by Terry Castro, Regional AFCEA VP. Outgoing President Mike Arnett (who has assumed a director position within the chapter) was recognized for his support to the chapter throughout his term. The event was a great success with delicious food, good friends, and great music (steel drum duo). The guest speaker, Norm Bobczynski from SpaceX, enlightened the audience about the importance of the commercial space launch industry and about some of the challenges facing the industry today.
