Status of Commercial Use of Kennedy Spaceport Panel
Mark Bontrager, Vice President, Spaceport Ops at Space Florida, Moderator. Mr. Bontrager leads the development of Space Florida's spaceport holdings including the development of Launch Complex 36 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Mark retired from the Air Force as the Commander, 45th Mission Support Group. Note: Pat McCarthy presented jointly with Mark Bontrager.
Patrick W. McCarthy, Director of Spaceport Operations, leads Space Florida's launch programs as their technical point of contact, providing process guidance related to launch vehicle, Spaceport, and Range Operations. Mr. McCarthy has utilized his extensive expertise in the operational arena to revamp Space Florida's interface procedures with the U.S. Air Force Eastern Range to smooth the flight safety analysis and launch approval processes for existing and potential commercial and educational customers. Mr. McCarthy was a catalyst for this effort, resulting in the Customer Assistance Service Program for the Eastern Range (CASPER), an integral part of implementing a key recommendation of the Governor's Commission on the Future of Space and Aeronautics in Florida.Download - PowerPoint or PDF
Scott Henderson. SpaceX, Director, Mission Assurance. Prior to SpaceX, Mr. Henderson held the position of Commander with the 45th Launch Group at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. Chuck Hardison. Boeing, Production & Ground Systems Mgr. Mr. Hardison leads Boeing's manufacturing, assembly and test efforts for the commercial crew program, including the planning for program facilities and operations infrastructure. Ed Mango. Director, NASA Commercial Crew Development Office. Mr. Mango is responsible for the multi-billion dollar Commercial Crew Program which will facilitate private industry development of commercial crew transportation services to and from low Earth orbit, for use by the US Government and other customers. Note: Carol Scott presented on behalf of Ed Mango. Carol A. Scott is the deputy mission manager for the Constellations Program's first test flight vehicle, Ares I-X, at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Fla. She is responsible for the design development, manufacture and execution of the Ares I-X test flight mission. Dr. Michael Macedonia. SAIC, Vice President and Chief Scientist. Prior to his current position, Dr. Macedonia was the Director of the Disruptive Technology Office for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence whose mission is to advance the technological superiority of the US intelligence community. He has also served as the CTO for the US Army Program Executive Office for simulation, Training and Instrumentation and Special Assistant to the Chief Scientist of the Army for the Chief of Staff's Future Combat System technology study. Lt Colonel Daniel Steele. Inspector General, 45th Space Wing. In his present position Lt Col Steele manages the personal complaints and fraud, waste, and abuse programs and monitors all congressional inquiries for the wing commander. He also leads the planning, developing, execution and evaluation of scenarios to test the wing's capability to respond to contingencies and assesses the wing's mission performance. Colonel Jay Bruhl, Director of the Logistics and Systems Directorate, Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC), Patrick Air Force Base, Fla. He leads a 217-person directorate responsible for delivering cyberspace operations, logistics, program management, information management, and postal support for AFTAC. The directorate also operates and sustains the U.S. Atomic Energy Detection System, enabling AFTAC's global monitoring mission to support high-level national and Department of Defense customers. Dr. Richard Ford. Florida Institute of Technology. Dr Ford graduated from the University of Oxford in 1992 with a D.Phil. in Quantum Physics. Since that time, he has worked extensively in the area of computer security and malicious mobile code prevention. He is currently the Director of the Harris Institute for Assured Information, and the Harris Professor of Computer Science in Assured Information at FIT. Tracy Bierman. IT Knowledge Products Service Manager, NASA. Mr. Bierman is a computer scientist specializing in the development of knowledge capture applications hosted in NASA data centers and NASA cloud computing providers. He works for the KSC CIO and supports NASA's Office of CIO initiatives. General Lance Lord (Ret). Former Commander USAF Space Command (Retired). as Commander, Air Force Space Command during which he was responsible for the development, acquisition and operation of Air Force space and missile weapon systems. Overseeing a global network of satellite command and control, communications, missile warning and launch facilities to ensure the combat readiness of the U.S. intercontinental ballistic missile force, he led more than 39,700 personnel who provided combat capabilities to North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Strategic Command.
